More Research on the Circulatory System
Wednesday, August 18, 2010 @ 10:41 AM
Right now we are in the library doing some research. This lesson I mainly focused my research on what parts make up the circulatory system and why we need the circulatory system. I gathered a few dot points together. This is what I learnt from this research lesson:
What parts make up the system?
-The circulatory system is divided into 3 major parts: The hearts, the blood, the blood vessels
-Made up of vessels and muscles that help control the flow of the blood around the body.
-The main parts of the system are the heart, arteries, capillaries and veins
Why do we need it?
-The circulatory system provides the body cells with oxygen and nutrients. Without these the body cells will not survive.
-Takes food and air from outside your body and brings it all over your body so that all your cells get all the food and oxygen they need to stay alive.
-The main transportation and cooling system for the body.
-Veins are used to carry blood to the heart and arteries carry blood away from the heart.
-Helps regulate your temperature. When your hot, capilleries under your skin tend to grow wider to and it allows some body heat to get out. When you are cold, capilleries tend to frow thinner and less heat is lost.
-The blood can also carry hotter hearts of the body to cooler parts
-Arteries have the thickest walls to carry large amount of blood at a high pressure. Veins have thinner walls because the pressure inside of them is lower.
-With each heartbeat, blood is sent to our bodies, carrying oxygen and nutrients to every cell that’s inside our bodies.
-System of blood vessels are used to distribute blood all over the body.
-With the circulatory system, waste is carried away
-Blood brings oxygen from the lungs and nutrients from the digestive system, to all cells of the body
I'm going to research more at home since this lesson is almost over. But I learnt a whole lot of things today (: .. to be continued, till next time (: ...
